How fees work

  • Insurance we work with

A routine eye exam is billed to your vision plan. A visit for an eye problem, an eye health check or a follow-up is billed to your medical insurance. Many visits mix the two, and the office explains which part goes where. We work with many vision plans: call to confirm yours. Medicare does not cover routine eye exams or glasses, with a few exceptions.

    • Vision plans, for routine exams, glasses and contact lenses

    • Medical plans, for eye health visits and follow-ups

    • Medicare, within its limits for eye care

  • If you pay yourself

Self-pay covers the exam and the services you ask for. Fitting fees, premium lens options, coatings and replacement lenses are billed separately. We tell you what each part will cost before you decide, and we never quote a price over the phone as a promise.

    • The exam

    • Contact lens fittings and follow-ups

    • Lenses and coatings

  • Receipts for reimbursement

Ask for an itemized receipt and send it to your plan. The plan decides what it pays you back.

  • An estimate in advance

If you pay without insurance, we give you a written estimate before your visit. Ask when you book. If a bill comes to $400 or more above your estimate, you can dispute it.

  • Checking your benefits

Before your visit we check your benefits and tell you what we find. Please check with your plan too, because the plan has the final say.

  • What the first visit includes

A first visit takes about an hour. It covers the exam, a look at the health of your eyes and, if you need them, glasses or contact lenses. Anything you pay yourself is agreed in writing first.

Your prescription is yours
